Boogie with Stu
Boogie with Stu -
Each Friday 8pm till 10pm
Yes, you are right the ‘Boogie with Stu’ title originates from track 13 of Led Zepplin’s album, ‘Physical Graffiti’ and is a fitting headline to illustrate the cross section of musical genres played on the programme.
From pure Blues to Classic R&B. We also have Rock some Jazz, Soul and Funk and the odd Folk and Country track also.
The music spans many decades, from early 1950’s to present day, but there’s always a focus on the golden period, from 1965 to 1975, when there was an explosion of new talent in every genre and is considered by many to be that moment in time when so many great artists and groups emerged on to the music scene on both sides of the Atlantic. A number of these singers and musicians are still performing today -
Most of the tracks played have their roots in the basic blues chord progressions that form the DNA of a high percentage of music around today. ‘Boogie’ is a term associated with that down to earth raunchy style that leaves you with that wonderful warm feeling from the hypnotic rhythms and key changes that are central to the blues musical genre.
Who is Stu?
Well his full name is Stewart Smith and for the record he is a retired Managing Consultant having spent over 40 years in the IT industry developing, implementing and managing the deployment of many IT solutions, but is now keen and ready to showcase his deep love and appreciation of Blues and Rock music on the radio – I think you would call it a change in direction!
Since he was around 8 years old he has followed popular music starting with rock and roll in the late 50’s and 60’s and then, after hearing a Blues programme on a radio station broadcasting from the North Sea hosted by Mike Raven in the mid 60’s, he was hooked into Blues and Classic Rhythm and Blues music. At the same time Britain saw the birth of several notable groups (John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Yardbirds, Stones etc.) and, like many others, became an avid follower of the R&B influenced music as it became the key starting point for all music genres including Rock, Funk, Soul and Jazz as well as being the root of all modern day quality music.
His show, called “Boogie with Stu” features a wide cross section of Blues, Classic Rhythm and Blues, Rock, Country Rock/Blues and even some notable folk music tracks that fall into the same musical picture. There is also a splattering of great classic tracks from each decade from the 60’s onwards, plus some recent offerings by some great new artists on both sides of the Atlantic.
Stewart’s aim is to tickle your musical taste buds with some great old recordings and to make you aware of new emerging material from artists new to him and you. So an eclectic mix of old and new, but with a blues or rock/blues influence – I hope you will join him on his “Boogie Experience”.
